Dear Joy to the Planet Reader:

I hope this finds you well in the world this week!

Before we dive into this week's topic...great news! Joy to the Planet recently became an award-winning website, as nominated by its readers. Thank you for your support!

On that note, thank you for continuing to spread the word about this ezine.  As I hope you're discovering, it is possible to enjoy life AND help the planet at the same time. Now it's time to let others know as well. Click here to send an email to a friend or colleague, and suggest that they might like to try a free subscription. Because it's a paperless way of sharing information...sharing Joy to the Planet is also a great green thing you can do for the planet!  Hehe, gotta love that eh?

And no, not to worry, that's NOT the lesson for today. <g>  Without further ado, let's talk about

How to Be Grateful AND help the planet...

How much do you enjoy your life?

It's kind of a funny question isn't it?  At least for a lot of people it can be.  But I think it's a great question to ask from time to time.

Filename: j0083407.wmfThe other day I was reminded to take stock a moment, and realize how much I am blessed in my life.  I have good friends, family, health, food, a home, laughter and work/writing that I love.  I feel blessed.

And of course, on the other hand, when it comes time to pay the bills, or look at a business plan (I own a few home-based business) it can be easy to slip into "I don't have enough" thinking.

Does that happen to you?  Yeah, most of us, I would guess, on this 3000+ list, fall into that mentality once in awhile.  But the truth was brought home to me quite starkly the other day, when the Global Rich List website was brought to my attention.  (It's at www.globalrichlist.com for those of you who like to skip ahead <g>)

At the site, there is a spot where you can enter your yearly income in US dollars or Pounds Sterling, then click the button that says "Show me the Money!"

The page that pops up next shows where you 'rank' in the world, according to annual income. And whew, it IS an eye opener.

Give it a try at http://www.globalrichlist.com. This is what it told me:

You are in the top 0.839% richest people in the world.
There are 5,949,632,435 people poorer than you.

Yikes, eh?!!

Now, how about you?  And what about entering in not your annual income, but your annual expenses??

You know what? After doing that simple 10 second exercise, I DID feel richer.  In fact, I felt and still do feel immeasurably more grateful.  I guess sometimes it pays (pun intended) to reflect for a moment eh?

I hope this little exercise gives you a chance to reflect on how rich you are in so many different ways, and that in your bounty, perhaps you'll choose to do something generous, be it making a small donation to an international care organization such as the Global Rich List site owners suggest, or something that contributes more locally, whatever wonderful thing your imagination can conceive.

Filename: BS00809_.wmfI for one let it guide me NOT to go to the mall (the urge comes upon me a handful of times a year...) and instead look around the house at how many books and clothes and fun things I haven't touched in ages.  My own bookshelves are like a library to me now! <g>  I invite you to have a look around and see if you're not much the same.

You'll enjoy your newfound richness and...by savoring the feeling of having more than enough, you'll help the planet at the same time by not acquiring more.  It's as simple as that.

I hope you enjoyed this simple and profound lesson this week.  If you have any comments or questions, or suggestions for topics for the ezine, do let me know.  I'm curious to know if you are doing anything green in your neck of the woods!  Just email me at andrea@joytotheplanet.com

Oh, and one quick thing before we go.  I've been asked by several subscribers to tell a little more about myself.  And although I weave in some stories in the lessons each week, I'm not one to put myself front and center much, especially since that's not the point of the ezine.  But since I've been asked now several dozen times times, let me share a link to my personal site: http://www.andreajlee.com.  It's much different from Joy to the Planet, but yes, it's all me. I've also put up a few banners to the left. Feel free to visit if you'd like to see a few of my other projects...all online businesses, and my bio.

Ok, that's more than enough of that! <g>

Next week, I'm looking forward to sharing the first-ever list of "coolest green cyber-gifts" in preparation for the holiday season.  So it's a perfect time to spread the word about Joy to the Planet! <g>  Stay tuned to find out how you can shop for gifts this holiday season all from the convenience of your home, be done in an hour, AND help the planet. Yup. No lineups at the post office even, for your overseas family or friends.  Honest.

Well, I guess you'll just have to take my word for it...until next week!  <g>

My best to you,

Andrea
